Winter Activities

As you have probably guessed from the name, the main winter activity is skiing. Durmitor enjoys about 120 days of snow a year between December and April. As well as Alpine skiing, snow boarding is also rapidly becoming popular and there are also various Nordic trails.

Besides the two chair lifts and various drag lifts at Savin Kuk, there are drag lifts at Javorovaca, Petrova Strana and Jablan Bara, plus two nursery slopes. Pistes are graded by alpine standards and range between intermediate (red) and easy (blue), with one very challenging (black) run. The trail from Savin Kuk is 3,500 metres long, that from Stuoc is shorter at 2,630 metres, but harder. The Javorovaca trail is 800 metres. The cross country tracks range from three to twelve kilometres.

Ski pass, equipment rental and instruction (some English spoken) are a bargain. For example the price in Euros is:

Snowboards and boots are also available to hire at a slightly higher price. There is also a shop in Zabljak that sells ski and boarding equipment.

There is also a ski school. Although we have not used it, we understand that the instructors speak English. Lessons cost around 10 euros per hour if you are in a group or around 20 euros per hour for individual tuition. For details contact: Zabljak Ski Club on 087 261 421 or Ski Centar Durmitor on 087 261 144/579.

The ski map below shows the position of the various runs and trains as well as the location of the lodge in relation to them.

As well as skiing and boarding there is a tradtional childs toboggan available at the lodge as well as snow gliders for occupants use.

We have heard recently that snow mobile treks are being offered but have no further details at this stage. We hope to add details about this shortly.
