About Montenegro
Montenegro (Crna Gora) was part of the former Yugoslavia. It is located on the Adriatic coast with Albania to the southeast and Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest. After the break up of Yugoslavia, Montenegro formed a loose union with neighbouring Serbia until 3 June 2006 when, after a national referendum, Montenegrins declared independance .

- The population is around 670,000 (2003), with around 25% (170,000) living in the capital, Podgorica. The historical and cultural capital is Cetinje with other major cities being Herceg Novi, Ulcinj, Budva, Kotor, Bar and Pljevlja.
- The climate is Mediterranean on the coast; more extreme on the cental plain and sub-alpine in the mountians.
- The language spoken is Serbian, however the official local name since 2004 has been maternji jeznik (mother toungue).
- The currency is the Euro and the time is GMT +1.
- Electicity is 220 volts AC and sockets are round two-pin (European).
- The National Day is celebrated on July 13th, the anniversary of the recognition of independance by the Congress of Berlin in 1878
